Revamping a tired website
There's no end of decrepit looking websites out there. Although there may be a healthy, thriving business behind the scenes, the company's website often gives a completely different impression. Imagine your website is like your shop window: if it looks cluttered, untidy, in need of attention or just plain scruffy are you likely to attract potential customers through your door?
A stale website that hasn't been updated in ages gives a poor impression of the business it represents. What's more, people (and more importantly, Search Engines) will quickly lose interest in revisiting a website that appears to be dormant. A fresh looking site with regularly updated content can give your business a new lease of life. This was demonstrated recently when we redesigned a website for a new customer. The new site went live 3 months ago and they recently let us know that since then they have received over £50,000 worth of orders as a direct result of people visiting the site (wisely, they monitor exactly where each new enquiry comes from).
The point is this: nothing else in their business has changed - the same staff still do the same work, from the same premises - BUT the way their business is presented to the world HAS changed. The new-look website is fresh and inviting and gives out a totally different message to their previous site. It makes the job of selling their services so much easier as the potential customer has already been given the right impression about the calibre of their work as they flipped through the gallery pages on the site.
We've all seen clunky old websites which look dated, tired and clearly out-of-date. What does a website like this say about the business it represents? Even assuming it gets picked up by Google in an online search, if it looks poor compared to competitors' sites it will likely be ignored. Remember, first impressions are very important on the web - visitors are far less patient online than they are when thumbing through printed material.
So take a good look at your business website. It may not need a complete rebuild from scratch - just a few simple tweaks can often make the difference.
