How to Rescue an Orphaned Website
What happens if you've had a website built by someone you've since lost touch with? It's surprising how often we've come across this scenario, usually when the web designer has either gone out of business, emigrated, or moved away. The customer is left with an out of date website which they've no way of accessing. Fortunately, help is at hand: Immediasite can rescue such 'orphaned' websites and put the control back in the hands of the customer.
Although every case is slightly different, this brief overview explains how we handle this kind of project.
STEP ONE: We find out where the domain name is held. Ideally the customer will have access to the domain name and its settings, in which case it can easily be pointed to the 'new' version of their website once we've built it. However, in many cases the domain name(s) will have been registered by the person who built the website - making it quite a challenge to gain access to the settings. Usually we aim to transfer the domain name(s) over to our control which makes future administration far easier. In some instances, the customer may prefer to start afresh with new domain names, in which case we'll register them and point them towards the new website.
STEP TWO: Rebuild the website onto the Immediasite Content Management System. Essentially we copy the existing website, page by page, onto our system so that the customer can then have full access to the page content from then on. Some customers may take the opportunity to revamp the design of the site at this stage.
STEP THREE: We train the customer how to keep their webpages up to date, add new pages, add search terms and check the Visitor Tracking system to monitor the site's performance.
That's how we put a defunct website back into the hands of its owner. If you're struggling with an outdated website with no way of contacting the person who built it, we'd love to hear from you as we can almost certainly help. Just call us on 0845 345 4005 or complete the enquiry form below:
